Chris and Melissa are missionaries in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. They met at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA and were married on February 9th, 2013. Melissa served as a teacher in Santa Cruz for the 2011-2012 school year through South America Mission, and both Chris and Melissa returned to Bolivia in May 2015. Melissa serves as a high school English teacher, and Chris serves as the youth pastor at the SCCLC.
We are associate members with South America Mission and we align with their mission to "live as redeemed children of God, reproduce authentic disciples of Jesus, multiply dynamic churches and church networks, train godly leaders, and enable transformational initiatives." South America Mission's vision is to see dynamic churches multiply across South America that will transform local communities and the world as they embody the Kingdom of God.
Bolivia is a developing nation with over 10 million citizens. In comparison to other Latin American countries, Bolivia ranks lower in health and educational stability and development. 95% of Bolivians identify themselves with Roman Catholicism. The city where we serve, Santa Cruz, is home to 1.5 million people and is located in the Eastern Central region. Our mission organization runs many ministries in Bolivia including spiritual development and outreach, theological training, flight services, medical ministry, and education.
We have been appointed to serve at the Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center, a PreK-12 private Christian school. We have had the pleasure of getting involved in the lives of the students here, mentoring students, holding weekly youth groups, and teaching them about how Christ and his Word can change them, and they can change the world.
